Once again, LexCloud.ca (formerly Animate) was delighted to attend the trade show at The Law Office Management Association’s (TLOMA) Annual Conference, this year at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario on October 25th and 26th. TLOMA is a non-profit that provides professional development through learning, sharing and networking, aimed at improving the competence and professionalism of legal management professionals. Their annual conference is an opportunity for us to meet with and support our friends and clients in the thriving TLOMA organization now entering its 30th year!

Primafact has released version 5, a major upgrade to their popular litigation document management software. Litigators use Primafact to manage and quickly access evidentiary documents when preparing cases.

This new version contains important improvements to annotations with issue coding, allowing teams to view case content by issue.

Toronto mayor John Tory recently helped welcome ROSS Intelligence, legal artificial intelligence (AI) leader, back to Toronto. ROSS applies AI and Machine Learning to legal research and has recently opened an R&D lab at U of T.

The company started as a course project at U of T’s computer science department in 2014. With its initial success, ROSS moved to Silicon Valley and became a member of the successful Y Combinator tech incubator and recently landed $8.3 million in Seed A funding.

Vancouver based Clio is the most popular browser-based practice management software boasting over 150,000 users. Their annual fall conference is a hotbed of innovative ideas for the development of legal services. At this year’s recent conference, Clio took the opportunity to announce a major overhaul of their 9-year-old cloud software.

The city of tomorrow is here now. Sidewalk Labs, owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, has won a competition run by Waterfront Toronto to develop a section of Toronto’s waterfront into a high-tech and experimental “smart city”.

The plan is to mobilize data-driven technology to innovate the way cities function and increase quality of life for its residents.
